What actually sets your price
- Age. The younger you are when you buy, the lower the price usually is, and term prices are typically level for the term.
- Health. Height and weight, conditions, medications and family history all factor in.
- Tobacco and nicotine. Smokers and vapers usually pay noticeably more.
- Coverage amount and length. More coverage, or a longer term, costs more.
- Policy type. Term is usually the lowest cost per dollar of coverage. Whole life and IUL cost more but are designed to last for life and can build cash value.
A hypothetical comparison
These are made-up comparisons to show how the pieces move, not quotes.
Same hypothetical person, three different choices.
| $250,000 of 20-year term | lowest monthly cost of the three |
| $500,000 of 20-year term | double the coverage, often less than double the price |
| $250,000 of permanent coverage | several times the term price, lasts for life |

Common follow-up questions
Why do two quotes for the same coverage differ?
Every insurer weighs health, age and lifestyle differently, which is why comparing several as an independent agency matters.
Does life insurance get more expensive every year?
Term premiums are usually level for the length of the term. Prices for new policies generally go up as you get older, so waiting typically costs more.
Is there a cheap way to start?
A smaller term policy is the most common starting point. You can often add or convert coverage later, depending on the policy.
Is a quote free?
Yes. Quotes and reviews with Walker Agency are free and come with no obligation.
